Whatcom Events is announcing that the Mt. Baker Hill Climb is sold out this year. Registration is capped at 450 riders and our waitlist is also full with over 50 racers signed up.
We were honored last year to have 2x World Hill Climb Champion Phil Gaimon join us for the race. He not only won with a time of 1:14:42, he claimed the Mt Baker Hill Climb KOM. His presence played a significant role in our event selling out on August 28, 2023, helping put the Mt. Baker Hill Climb on the map. His record will be tough to beat! Phil shared his experience, saying, “Mt. Baker Hill Climb was well-run, safe, scenic, and challenging but with a positive atmosphere. I had tons of fun racing and meeting all of the riders, and I’ll keep an eye out for more reasons to return to Bellingham. This was a perfect way to check Mt. Baker off of my list, and I’m excited to share the episode of Worst Retirement Ever with you all.”
The Mt. Baker Hill Climb departs from Chair 9 Pizza in Glacier. Cyclist ascend 4,462 feet to Artist Point (5,076 feet elevation) in approximately 22 miles. The Mt. Baker Highway (SR542) is known as one of the most scenic paved roads in the country and rarely is the highway closed to motorized vehicles on the way up to Artist Point. With steep elevation and several switchbacks, this ride is not for the faint of heart. We invite racers to experience the agony AND the ecstasy! Details on the ride can be found at bakerhillclimb.com.
There are three divisions: Social riders leave at 7:00am (e-bikes welcomed);Recreational Riders leave at 8:00am;and Competitive Racers (eligible for Awards) leave at 8:30am.
The Mt. Baker Hill Climb was awarded the #9 Top Gran Fondo in North America this year and #2 Hill Climb in the US by the Gran Fondo Guide in 2019. You can see their Top 10 North American Gran Fondos list here. We are grateful to have made this list.
