Brandywine Draws No.1 Seed in USCAAWorld Series

MEDIA, Pa. — Defending national champion Penn State Brandywine will be the No. 1 seed when the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Softball World Series begins next week after seeding was announced by the Association on Tuesday.

Brandywine will headline the 10-team field after capturing the program’s first-ever national championship in 2023 as the Lions topped Mississippi University for Women 10-9, capping a 4-0 week in DuBois. The Lions will enter the tournament with the most wins in the USCAA, holding a 34-8 record.

Brandywine claimed its ninth-straight Penn State University Athletic Conference championship Monday morning, besting Penn State Mont Alto 8-0 in five innings to complete a 2-0 sweep of the three-game championship series. The title allowed Brandywine to earn the conference’s automatic bid to the USCAA World Series.

The Lions’ conference mates, Penn State Mont Alto, Penn State Schuylkill and Penn State New Kensington, will be the No. 2-4 seeds, respectively. Bay Path College is seeded fifth, followed by Lyon College, Salem University, Southern Maine Community College, Carlow University and Penn State DuBois.

Brandywine will open the tournament at Heindl Memorial Field on Monday, May 13 at 4:00 PM. The Lions will face the winner of the 8-9 game between Southern Maine and Carlow, which will be played earlier in the day.

The double-elimination World Series continues through Thursday’s 12:00 PM national championship game.
