Discover an Accessible Outdoors In Flint & Genesee

Flint & Genesee is filled with places to enjoy nature. But did you know that Flint & Genesee also has a number of fully accessible nature spots to accommodate people of varying abilities?  

According to the CDC, 1 in 4 adults live with a disability and from that, the most common is mobility which affects 1 in 7 adults. This is why it is important to have spaces accessible to people of all abilities.  

In Flint & Genesee, here are some of the places that are fully accessible.  

LINDEN COUNTY PARK 

The local park located in Linden features a variety of areas throughout including the park and Clover Beach on Byram Lake. Beach parking is fully paved and there is an ADA compliant ramp heading down to the beach. On the other side of the park, there are paved footpaths throughout the trail.  

FOR-MAR NATURE PRESERVE AND ARBORETUM 

In Burton, For-Mar Nature Preserve features a barrier-free treehouse built by Nelson Treehouse from Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters.” The treehouse features an ADA-compliant ramp for people of all abilities to access.  

MOTT LAKE KAYAK LAUNCH 

In Genesee Township there is a fully accessible kayak launch on Mott Lake thanks to the Genesee County Parks & Recreation. Mott lake is a no-wake lake and a great place for beginner kayakers to explore.  

BLUEBELL BEACH 

In Flint, Bluebell Beach boasts a zero-depth, barrier-free splash pad for children of all abilities. The park also features the first universally accessible playground in Genesee County equipped with a transfer station.  

MUNDY MIRACLE COMMONS 

Located in Mundy Township, Mundy Miracle Commons is a 99-acre park of woodlands, wetlands and 1.8 miles of paved accessible pathway. The local park complex is still being completed and is intended to have a proposed regional destination universally accessible ballfield in cooperation with the Miracle League.
