Sports Business Journal (SBJ) presents its much-anticipated 2024 Best Sports Business Cities (BSBC) rankings, a comprehensive analysis focusing on U.S. cities that have demonstrated recent success in attracting and hosting a diverse array of sporting events. The unveiling of this year’s results is a testament to the booming sports travel and tourism sector, with significant investments, increased sporting event bids and a surge in municipal funding earmarked for event attraction.
As part of the Best Sports Business Cities franchise for 2024, Sports Business Journal (SBJ) spent six months conducting an exhaustive research study on American cities that are the most successful at attracting and hosting sports events. The rankings are the result of an extensive database, including 1,500 events that took place or were awarded from January 1, 2017, through December 31, 2023, while considering cities with their own convention space, sports venues, and dedicated sports commission/CVB staff as stand-alone markets. They also completed interviews with high-level sports executives across several verticals and incorporated their feedback into the findings.
As the list of host cities was segmented, Frisco, Texas, was designated among the Ones to Watch. What puts Frisco on this lookout list? SBJ cited the $500 million PGA Frisco development, the pro teams headquartered here, including the Cowboys, Stars, and FC Dallas, the stadiums, and the versatility of The Star. These things combined with easy access from two major airports in Dallas have helped Frisco rapidly become ‘a sports event-hosting juggernaut’.
Frisco is featured as part of a Special Report announced in the March 18 issue of Sports Business Journal. See the entire digital issue here or online version here.
