Earlier this summer, the Wintrust Sports Complex was proud to host the prestigious Under Armour Association (UAA) Finals. This massive, championship event served as the pinnacle of a yearlong league-style circuit, bringing together the nation’s top high school boys’ basketball teams at the 17U and 16U levels. Two teams were ultimately crowned UAA Champions: Team Thrill (17U) and KC Run GMC (16U).
With over 90 elite teams competing onsite and an additional 120 teams playing at satellite facilities, the tournament was a true showcase of talent. Impressively, over 95% of teams onsite hailed from outside Illinois, giving our complex national exposure as we hosted some of the best high school basketball teams in the country across our 8 premier courts.
The event drew over 350 college coaches, including high-profile names such as Shaka Smart (Marquette), Fran McCaffery (Iowa), and Porter Moser (Oklahoma), all of whom came to scout the future stars of college basketball.
Beyond the excitement on the court, the tournament brought substantial attention to Wintrust Sports Complex, with content featuring the event appearing on platforms like @uabasketball, @slam_hs and @sportscenternext. These posts garnered over 2 million views and 300k likes, significantly boosting our visibility in the basketball community.
During the same week, we also hosted the Under Armour Futures One-Six Tournament, a highly competitive event for 5th-8th graders aiming to prepare for the next level of basketball. The One-Six featured 18 girls’ teams in the 7th and 8th grade divisions, alongside over 30 boys’ teams ranging from 5th to 8th grade. It was an inspiring experience to witness the rising stars of the sport honing their skills right here in Bedford Park.
In every way, this week was a phenomenal success for the Wintrust Sports Complex, the athletes, and the basketball community.
