Today, we celebrate women’s contributions to athletics and those who have paved the way towards equality on and off the field. In 1987, National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) was created as a day to recognize the accomplishments in women’s sports and to shed light on the need for equality for women in sports. This special day was first created to remember Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman, her contribution to volleyball, and her promotion of equality in sports. NGWSD also recognizes the anniversary of the Title IX law, which ensures all collegiate athletes receive equal access to federal funding assistance, regardless of gender.
Happy National Girls & Women in Sports Day from Playeasy. Today and every day, we celebrate the women who continue to show up and lead on the field, on the sidelines, and in the conference room. Here’s to the incredible achievements of girls and women in sports!
