In the News: AJGA Set to Host Auction Fundraiser to Support Aspiring Junior Golfers Nationwide

Picture this: You’re out on a beautiful golf course—say Winged Foot, Bethpage Black or Prairie Dunes—with the knowledge that you’ve helped raise money for young men and women to try to attain college golf scholarships. Even if you play poorly, you’ve already won. And if you play well, the world’s your oyster.

This could be you soon enough, as the American Junior Golf Association is set to host an end-of-the-year auction fundraiser to support junior golfers without the financial resources to compete in national golf events. The proceeds will go toward the AJGA’s Liberty National Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) Grant program, with the auction opening at 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 and closing at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25.

More than 130 items can be bid on, the majority of which are rounds of golf at some of the country’s premier courses. As of this story’s publishing, the bids for various top-tier courses range from $250 to $2,500, along with some non-golf outing options from a Bryson DeChambeau signed flag to Augusta National and St. Andrews paintings to dove hunting for four in Argentina. (Dove Hunting Digest reporting for duty!)

The reason you’re reading this article, however, is for the courses, and the list of clubs where rounds are available is almost overwhelming: Aronimink, Nemacolin, Quail Hollow, Baltrusol, Southern Hills, Congaree, Bethpage Black, Fishers Island, Winged Foot, The Grove XII, The Olympic Club, Oakmont. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

If you’re nursing an injury or taking a break from playing golf, there are quite a few golf-themed trips up for grabs, as well, like four week-long passes to the American Express, tickets to the BMW Championship or a chance to live it up at the WM Phoenix Open (drinks certainly not included).

The AJGA has more than 9,000 members ages 12-19 from 50 states and 60 foreign countries with the mission of helping secure college golf and academic scholarships. According to the AJGA, “All funds raised from this auction will be used to provide scholarships allowing these juniors and their families to get reimbursed for travel related expenses, tournament fees, equipment, and other expenses related to being competitive.”

The future of golf is (partially) in your hands, and all you have to do is play Winged Foot. That sounds like a nice little trade-off.
