March Madness ignites a certain frenzy with sports fanatics across the nation. These few weeks are notoriously some of the most unpredictable in sports, creating major upsets and unexpected victors. It’s no wonder the nation becomes obsessed with brackets, bonding friends and coworkers alike. We’re breaking down March Madness’ impact on sports tourism and giving a rundown on host venues for both Women’s and Men’s March Madness.
Of course, March Madness is a huge money maker. Host cities throughout the month see enormous economic impact. This year, the Men’s Final Four will be held in New Orleans at Caesars Superdome. The Final Four is estimated to bring in $200 million to New Orleans. First and second rounds will also leave an impact, with the games on March 18 and 20 in Milwaukee expected to bring in $6.5 million to the area. Women’s March Madness headed to Wichita, Kansas from March 25-28, bringing thousands of new visitors to the area and expecting to generate $1 million for the city. Tickets for the Championship Game at Caesars Superdome are going for up to $32,000 this year. In 2021, the NCAA generated $1.6 billion in revenue, with much of this coming from March Madness. Hosting the any of the games is an exciting feat in itself, and an incredible economic opportunity.
