FRISCO, March 23, 2025 – “Matty Ice” lived up to his nickname, as Matt Ryan pieced together a final round comeback to win THE PRO FTB inaugural tournament at PGA Frisco. The former All-Pro quarterback rolled in an eagle on the opening hole to close the gap against second round leader Mike Leach, an NFL veteran of 16 seasons, and played steady golf the rest of the way to take home the title.
“We don’t get to compete like we used to, but when you get an event like this, everyone was grinding today,” Ryan said. “And it’s great to have some of what made us special in our other careers (on display today). We very much appreciate (THE PRO) having us;thank you for putting this on. I look forward to watching what it becomes and how it grows, and I look forward to hopefully being back at another event soon.”
Ryan, who entered the final round in third place seven points behind Leach, tallied three birdies to go with that opening eagle and moved to the top of the leaderboard. On the day, he finished with a final round-high of 38 points in the Stableford scoring format to capture the crown.
Leach, who also is the head coach of the women’s golf team at William & Mary University, had held the lead for the first two rounds, navigating strong winds and fast, dry conditions. His play in the final round remained stellar, stringing together six crucial pars on the back nine to remain just one point behind Ryan in a back-and-forth battle before ultimately finishing third.
Garrett Graham, a former tight end with the Houston Texans, compiled 36 points on Sunday to move up the leaderboard and finish in solo second place. Ryan Succop, who played 11 seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, finished fourth, while Brett Kern, who punted for the Tennessee Titans for six seasons, finished fifth.
