Rapid City Sports Commission helps stimulate local economy.
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) – Last year, Visit Rapid City gave local sports fans something to cheer about. The Rapid City Sports Commission was created to help grow youth sports in the area and stimulate the local economy.
During its infancy, the commission has made progress in investing in upgrades to indoor facilities throughout the area and bringing in big tournaments.
Thanks to the commission, next year, Rapid City will be hosting the U.S. Tumbling and Trampoline National Championships.
Rapid City Sports Commission Executive Director, Domico Rodriguez, talked about the commission’s long-term vision, “To continue to recruit events in. Grow current events that we have, you know. We have the largest Native American basketball tournament in the nation in LNI every December. That’s looking to grow an additional 16 teams. It will rival the size of the NCAA tournament if they can reach that.”
