Earlier this month, we had the honor of hosting a groundbreaking event at Wintrust Sports Complex—Chicago Public Schools’ Reimagining STEM. This innovative experience brought together students, families, educators, and community partners for an intergenerational, interactive day centered around the powerful intersection of sports, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), and community.
This marked the first time CPS brought this event to our facility, and we were proud to be the platform where this new and exciting vision came to life. The Reimagining STEM initiative aims to make STEM more approachable and accessible—especially to students and families who may not traditionally see themselves represented in these fields.
Making STEM Tangible Through Sports
STEM can sometimes feel abstract, especially for younger students or parents unfamiliar with the subject. But this event changed that narrative.
Throughout the day, families engaged in hands-on exhibits and activities designed to demonstrate how STEM concepts are applied in the world of sports. From data analytics and biomechanics to sports tech and training innovations, every station was a learning opportunity wrapped in excitement.
For example, attendees learned how athletes use technology to improve performance, how data is tracked and analyzed in real time during games, and how engineers and designers contribute to the gear and environments athletes use every day. These real-world applications made STEM not only relatable, but inspiring.
A Space for Community and Opportunity
What truly made this event special was its ability to bring together families from all across Chicago—people of all ages and backgrounds—to explore STEM in a fun and inclusive environment. Kids lit up as they saw the direct connection between their favorite sports and the technology that powers them. Parents had meaningful conversations with STEM professionals about potential career paths and educational opportunities.
This was more than an educational fair—it was a movement. A movement toward equity, opportunity, and empowerment for every CPS family.
Collaboration Makes It Possible
Events like this don’t happen without strong partnerships, and we’re incredibly thankful to all the organizations that helped make it a success, including Chicago Sky Cares, Boeing, The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry, and other passionate STEM advocates who helped design and deliver this unique experience.
At Wintrust Sports Complex, we believe in being more than just a venue—we’re a hub for community-driven innovation, inspiration, and impact. Hosting the Reimagining STEM event aligns perfectly with our mission to create meaningful experiences that empower youth and uplift communities.
Looking Ahead
This event served as a bold reminder of the possibilities that emerge when education, innovation, and community come together. We’re excited about the momentum generated here and hopeful it will inspire more programming that puts STEM in a new light—especially for students who may one day become the next sports tech engineer, data analyst, or innovator shaping the future of athletics and beyond.
To all the families who attended, the educators who inspired, and the partners who powered the vision—thank you. The impact of this day will be felt far beyond the walls of our facility.
Let’s keep reimagining what’s possible—together.
