Ann Arbor has always been a big sports town – but it’s not just football making waves here in Michigan. An eight-lane, Olympic-level rowing course opened this April on Ford Lake in Ypsilanti, another college town and destination just a short drive from downtown Ann Arbor.
The course serves as the Eastern Michigan University Rowing Team’s home course, built with the support of four founding partners – EMU, Ypsilanti Township, Ann Arbor Sports Commission and Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eagle Crest. Ypsilanti and the greater Ann Arbor area are now in pole position as a premier location for rowing events.
The new rowing course will bring U.S. Rowing events to town, too. But that’s just one small part of the sports planning experience around Ann Arbor. It’s a place where some of the nation’s best athletes come to live and play, and their fields and facilities are hard to top. That’s the power of having two Division I schools within one county – and why the Ann Arbor area is ideal for events of any size.
