Visit Mesa & Prospect Wire Are Excited for the West Coast Championships

Every year since 2012, Prospect Wire has kicked off the summer on the west coast, with a first class event in Mesa, Arizona. Originally called the West Coast National Championships, it was quickly rebranded to give it a more appropriate feel for an early summer event. Many teams were not quite ready for a “National Championship” right out of the gate, so the event focused more on kicking off the summer, rather than proclaiming greatness out of the shoot.

With the Chicago Cubs originally calling the Fitch Sports Complex their home, the event started with 5 Cubs fields, along with local Mesa area facilities at Gene Autry Sports Complex & Red Mountain Sports Complex fielding additional games. With many key games being played inside Hohokam Stadium, the same field the Cubs played their spring training games on, the event was a popular draw. With over 80 teams registered in the early years, it was the place to be to kick off summer.

Since its inception, the Cubs have since built a new facility at Riverview Park, still in Mesa. The Oakland A’s have moved into Fitch, and unfortunately, the fields Prospect Wire used were lost in the move. But it has spurned the use of other first-class local facilities, such as Mesa Community College & other local area HS fields like Red Mountain HS and others. With Mesa continually working to keep their fields updated and in great shape, Prospect Wire continues to look for additional opportunities to bring first class facilities and experience to the West Coast Championships.

“We have always valued our partnership with Visit Mesa, the Cubs & the parks & rec department in Mesa, to bring the best possible event we can to the city. The city has always worked hard to ensure we have the best experience possible. We continue to work with Lance Fite and his group to come up with new & exciting ways to make the events we run in Mesa bigger & better, as well as more attractive to out of area teams,” remarked Prospect Wire President Brian Werner.

Registration for this year’s event is open at both the Prospect Wire PlayEasy page, or directly on the Prospect Wire website at: https://play.prospectwire.com/events/west-coast-championships-mesa-az-06-01-2024
