USA Volleyball is set to return to Salt Lake City for major events in 2022. USA Volleyball will arrive in March 2022 for the Salt Lake City Showdown. This event will overlap over two consecutive weekends and bring roughly 600+ teams per weekend. This translates into several thousand athletes and attendees descending upon the city. The event will serve as a qualifier for the 2022 Girls Junior National Championship and the Girls 18s Junior National Championship. The Salt Lake City Showdown will continue to occur each spring for the next several years as an iconic event in volleyball.
The city will also host both the USAV Boys Junior Nationals in June 2023 and the Girls 18s National Championship in April 2025. Both events are massive, with the Boys creating upwards of 30,000 room nights in the destination. All events will attract the top club and travel teams from across the nation.
“We are so excited to showcase Salt Lake as a major volleyball destination. The momentum has been building over the past several years, and with the growth of the city with new hotels coming online, and with the growth of the sport of volleyball in our state, we are poised to emerge as a major player when it comes to volleyball destinations in the US,” says Clay Partain, Managing Director of Sports Salt Lake.
As a past and possible future Winter Olympics host, Salt Lake knows what it takes to host sports events on a global and local scale. Visitors will never run out of sites to see, whether exploring the mountains, the pristine downtown, the up-and-coming South Valley region and everything in between.
Salt Lake is quickly expanding as a major sports and events city in the US. With the fastest growing economy in the US, and major projects rolling out including a $4 billion airport and a new convention hotel, this scenic city is the perfect choice for your next event.
“Our community hosts over 40 events per year, and our diverse array of venues allows us to touch almost any type of sport. From quidditch, to weightlifting, to BMX, and outdoor kart racing, we can host just about anything you can think of,” Partain shares.
USA Volleyball is the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of volleyball in the United States and is recognized as such by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). USA Volleyball supports the U.S. National Teams for indoor, beach and sitting volleyball. With 40 regions across the nation, USA Volleyball-sanctioned competitions and events offer elite experiences for athletes and fans.
“We have been working to make sure teams have plenty of opportunities around the country to qualify for Nationals. We look for the Salt Lake City Showdown to become a premier event on the USAV calendar and know that the city will be a great destination for our athletes and fans.”
Kristy Cox, USA Volleyball Events Director
