The Mission of the State Games of America is to:
 Provide wholesome avenues for positive, personal development through sports and activity
 Promote a national program of amateur-athletic competitions based on medal winners of
NCSG-member events
 Promote participation in amateur sports by citizens of all ages and skill levels
 Promote better overall health and fitness among citizens

For 2028, July 26-30 are the preferred dates. August 2-6 would also be acceptable.

To ensure maximum participation in the State Games of America, bidding communities may choose to host the event in a timeframe most desirable to them and their local participants. The timeframe in which State Games of America may be hosted is between June and mid-August, as to not interfere with school starting across the country. Please note that State Games of America has traditionally been hosted during the last week of July/first week of August to avoid any conflicts with local State Games programs and the start of school.

May 31, 2023 - Letter of intent deadline
July/August 2023 - NCSG Board approves states selected for site visits
Mid- August 2023 - States selected for site visits notified
Late August/ Early September 2023 - Site visits
Mid-September 2023 - States selected for final presentations notified
October 1-5, 2023 - Final presentations and decision at NCSG Annual Symposium/TEAMS Conference
December 31, 2023 - Contract/MOU signed
