About Robert W. Plaster Center
The Robert W. Plaster Center is the premiere Indoor Track & Field facility in the Midwest. Opened in 2015, the Robert W. Plaster Center is a collaboration between Pittsburg State University, private donors, the City of Pittsburg, and Crawford County.
The dedicated 154,000-square-foot indoor track and field facility features a 100-yard turf field, an 11,000-square-foot modern strength facility, and a 300-meter track with a Mondo Super X surface – the same manufacturer that has provided the running surface for the last 8 Olympic Games. Field event areas include a raised pole vault runway, raised long/triple jump runway, a high jump apron, and dedicated weight throw/shot put areas with vertically retractable cages.
The Robert W. Plaster Center features permanent seating for 1,500, but with the addition of bleachers on the north side, can accommodate up to 3,000. A state-of-the-art video board allows spectators to follow the action from anywhere in the venue and offers live results, which helps the crowd excitement when they can immediately see times for all races. Overlooking the competition area, the strength and conditioning facility serves as a perfect hospitality area for coaches, school administrators, and media.
The facility has hosted numerous indoor track and field (ITF) national championships in recent years, including the 2016, 2018, and 2019 NCAA Division II National ITF Championships and the 2017, 2019, and 2021 NJCAA ITF National Championships. We also hosted the 2018 NAIA National ITF Championships. We are set to host the indoor track and field national championships for both the NCAA DII and NJCAA in 2022.
Travel details
The parking lot south of the Plaster Center is accessed through the Kansas Technology Center (KTC) parking lot. Turn off of Ford Street and go to the northwest corner of the KTC lot for road access.
