Regarded as a "fast-track", the UA track and field complex underwent $150,000 in renovations prior to hosting the 1998 MAC Men's and Women's Track & Field Championships. The Zip's eight-lane, 400-meter Rekortan surface was widened, and new curbing installed, with anew javelin runway, hammer and discus cages, shot put sector, long jump pit and pole vault box also put in place.

Most recently, a new multipurpose building was erected in the northeast corner of the complex and serves as a storage and meet operations facility.
