Showtime Speedway (formerly Sunshine Speedway) re-opened in July of 2012 after an 8-year hiatus. Originally opened in 1960, Sunshine Speedway provided wheel-to-wheel action and family fun for over 4 decades almost every Saturday night. In 2004, the State of Florida purchased the property for a future road project leading to the closure of the speedway.
Due to budget constraints and a less than stellar outlook, there was no road project insight. The State began using the speedway as a Sun Pass and toll testing facility. After a handful of grassroots efforts, most notably the “Bring Back The Track” campaign in 2008, a small contingent of diehard race fans got together and went to Florida Senator Jack Latvala. Within months, the State had agreed to put the property up for rent.
