Major League Rugby is a professional sports league representing the highest rugby competition in North America. The League has evolved from seven teams in 2018 to 12 teams in the 2024 season.
RISE OF RUGBY
Major League Rugby has experienced significant growth in seven years, and the momentum continues as the league and rugby grow throughout North America on the road to the 2031 Rugby World Cup hosted by the United States.
In its first season, the League introduced rugby to North America with crucial broadcast partnerships even from the very beginning.
Additionally, the skill level on the pitch has grown exponentially year over year as top foreign talent continues to enter the League and the American rugby pathways have strengthened.
The League added the Collegiate Draft to serve as a further pathway to professional rugby and is working towards youth rugby initiatives with all teams, including the addition of Grassroots Development Incentives.
For fans and players, rugby is beloved due to its aggressive physicality, strategic nature, fast pace, camaraderie, and diverse nature of participants.
MLR has continued proving that fans are falling in love with rugby for its duality. Some fall in love with the sport’s intensity, physicality, and speed. While some can’t get enough of the communal celebration after every match, where players and fans from both teams come together to mingle over food or drinks. And for others, it’s the ability to be coached by a professional rugby player in the afternoon and then cheer on that mentor taking the pitch later that same day.
